Falling asleep - Addormentarsi -

Falling asleep sitting, Assam, India - Images by Sunil Deepak
Falling asleep sitting, Bangkok, Thailand - Images by Sunil Deepak
Falling asleep sitting, Cape Town, South Africa - Images by Sunil Deepak

Sleep can be so unpredictable. Sometimes we keep on turning sides in the bed while there are times, try as much you can, but it is impossible to keep your eyes open. Today's images have some moments of falling asleep while sitting from - Guwahati (India), Bangkok (Thailand) and Cape Town (South Africa).

Night markets - Mercati notturni -

Night markets, Jorhat, India - Images by Sunil Deepak
Night markets, Bangkok, Thailand - Images by Sunil Deepak
Night markets, Hanoi, Vietnam - Images by Sunil Deepak

Asia: I love selecting pictures from different countries on the same theme for this blog, because it is an opportunity to go through the pictures of old journeys and remember places and people. Today's images are from 3 countries of Asia - India (Jorhat), Thailand (Bangkok) and Vietnam (Hanoi). In all the three there are men selling something in the night market and they are all looking towards the camera. The man in Jorhat seemed worried, the one in Bangkok was happy while the third one in Hanoi did not like that I was clicking pictures of special lights.

Alberobello, Italy: Long time ago I had seen the pictures of the houses of Alberobello, called Trulli, with conical roofs made of black stones, and I had dreamed of going there. In 2012, Antonio, a friend from Ostuni had made that dream come true. Today's pictures are from that journey.

Gaza, Palestine: There was a time when persons owning a horse driven carriage were considered rich. Today such carriages are seen mostly in poor societies. In Gaza finding petrol is often difficult and poverty is widespread, thus the horse driven carts are common.

Khalil Gibran statue, Goias, Brazil - Sunil Deepak, 2010
Munshi Prem Chand statue, Lucknow, India - Sunil Deepak, 2010
James Joyce statue, Dublin Ireland - Sunil Deepak, 2010

From ever since I can remember, I had always loved reading. Living other lives through imagined worlds of fiction, knowing about new philosophical ideas, understanding what do persons of other countries, languages and cultures think and why, all this was possible through the books. Today's images are of 3 authors from 3 continents, who were all born in the same period (around 1880s) and had become well known. Did they know each other, had they ever read each other's works, I do not know. But I am happy to bring them together in a literary meeting through my pictures - Khalil Gibran (Lebanese), Munshi Prem Chand (Indian) and James Joyce (Irish).

Lisbon, Portugal: In many parts of the city centre, artists have used black and white stones to create Rangoli like mosaics on the ground. Today there are three examples of those.

Bologna, Italy: Venus statue with its broken arms is considered as one of the symbols of women's beauty in the west. Today's images have a women with broken arms by the Italian sculptor Sergio Unià, that, in my opinion, expresses both strength and vulnerability.

Guwahati, Assam, India: All the ducks came out together for their morning walk, walking fearlessly in the middle of the road. Those with cars, scooters and bicycles, slowed down and tried to pass from the sides, without disturbing them.

Delhi, India: Three posters that I liked at the Queer Pride Parade yesterday (30 Nov) - "If god hates gays, why are we so cute?"; "Mr. judge, we are not a minority, we are Indians", and, "Because even Ba (Mrs. Mahatma Gandhi) was also a feminist".
