River bank - Riva del fiume - नदी किनारे

Kamrup district, Assam, India: At Mazgumi you can get a boat for going to the 20-25 inhabited islands in Brahmaputra river. Life on the islands is tough as the state services like electricity and health care are not available there. Every year during the rainy seasons, they get flooded. Today's images have the river bank at Mazgumi.

जिला कामरूप, असम, भारतः मज़गूमी से ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी के बीच बसे 20-25 द्वीपों के लिए नावें मिलती हैं. नदी के द्वीपों पर रहने वालों के जीवन कठिन हैं क्योंकि अधिकतर सरकारी जनसुविधाएँ वहाँ तक नहीं पहुँचती जैसे बिजली, चिकित्सा आदि. बारिश के दिनों में वहाँ के घर बाढ़ में डूब जाते हैं. आज की तस्वीरों में मज़गूमी से  नदी का तट.

Distretto di Kamrup, Assam, India: A Mazgumi puoi prendere la barca per andare alle 20-25 isole abitate in mezzo al fiume Brahmaputra. La vita sulle isole non è facile perché non hanno i servizi statali come la corrente elettrica o i servizi sanitari. Ogni anno durante la stagione delle piogge le isole vanno sotto acqua. Brahmaputra's son - Figlio di Brahmaputra - ब्रह्मपुत्र का पुत्र

Assam, India: We had gone to that island in the river Brahmaputra with a boat clinic. He had just come out of the river, mud coating his face and chest. Why did you cover yourself with mud, I asked him many times, but he did not answer.

असम, भारतः हम लोग ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी के उस द्वीप पर एक नाव क्लिनिक के साथ गये थे. वह तभी नदी से निकल रहा था, मुँह तथा छाती मिट्टी से लिपे हुए थे. क्यों लगायी इस तरह से मिट्टी, मैंने कई बार पूछा पर उसने उत्तर नहीं दिया.

Bamboo sellers - Venditori di bambù - बाँस बेचनेवाले

Guwahati, Assam, India: I had seen the huts on the river Brahmaputra while passing from there in a bus and had thought that those were the houses of fishermen. When I went there I found that it was the place of bamboo sellers. Bamboos are brought there from the north through the river. Huts of the poor, traditional Assamese houses or concrete apartments, here bamboo is used in all kinds of construction.

गुवाहाटी, असम, भारतः वहाँ से गुज़रते समय बस से ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी के किनारे बनी झोपड़ियों को देख कर सोचा था कि अवश्य मछुआरों के घर होंगे. पास जा कर देखा तो मालूम चला कि वह बाँस बेचने वालों की बस्ती है. बाँस उत्तरी असम से नदी से लाये जाते हैं. गरीबों की झोपड़ियाँ हों, पाराम्परिक घर हों या आधुनिक काँक्रीट के एपार्टमैंट, यहाँ बाँस हर जगह काम आते हैं.

Guwahati, Assam, India: Avevo visto le capanne lungo il fiume Brahmaputra mentre passavo da quelle parti in autobus e avevo pensato che erano le case dei pescatori. Invece è la zona dei venditori di bambù. I bambù arrivano dal nord tramite il fiume. Che siano le capanne dei poveri, le case assamesi tradizionali o i moderni appartamenti di cimento, il bambù si usa per tutte le costruzioni da queste parti.

Bridges of Nagaon - Ponti di Nagaon - नागाँव के पुल

Assam, India: Nagaon is the birth place of Shanker Mahadev, fifteenth century religious reformer and cultural personality of Assam. Today's images have the bridges over Kolong river from that city. This river divides the city into two parts, Nagaon and Haibargaon.

असम, भारतः नागाँव पंद्रहवीं शताब्दी के धर्म सुधारक तथा असम के साँस्कृतिक गुरु शंकर महादेव की जन्मभूमि है. आज की तस्वीरों में वहाँ की कोलोंग नदी पर पुल. यह नदी शहर को दो हिस्सों में बाँटती है, नागाँव तथा हाइबरगाँव.

Evening boats - Barche di sera - संध्या की नावें

Tezpur, Assam, India: I had heard the name of this city in 1962 when my maternal uncle had come here during the India-China war. I had formed an image of this city in my mind. Yesterday when I came here for the first time, thinking about those old memories I was so thrilled. Today's images have sunset on Brahmaputra river in Tezpur.

तेज़पुर, असम, भारतः इस शहर का नाम 1962 में सुना था जब मेरे मामा यहाँ भारत-चीन युद्ध के दौरान आये थे. तब से मन में एक छवि सी बनी थी इस शहर की. कल जब यहाँ पहली बार आया तो पुरानी यादों के बारे में सोच कर रोमन्चित हो रहा था. आज की तस्वीरों में तेज़पुर में ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी पर सूर्यास्त.

Tezpur, Assam, India: Avevo sentito il nome di questa città nel 1962 quando mio zio materno era stato qui durante la guerra tra India e Cina. Mi ero costruito un'immagine di questa città nella mia testa. Ieri quando sono arrivato qui per la prima volta, pensando a quei vecchi ricordi, mi sentivo emozionato. Le immagini di oggi hanno il tramonto sul fiume Brahmaputra a Tezpur.

White sands - Sabbie bianche - सफेद बालू

Guwahati, Assam, India: There are different islands of pristine shining fine white sand in the Brahmaputra river, where occasional tourists arrive, but there are no hordes. In many countries, such places are "developed" as tourist resorts, however I prefer this incontaminated non-tourist version!

गुवाहाटी, असम, भारतः ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी में सुन्दर स्वच्छ चमकती हुई महीन सफेद बालू के विभिन्न द्वीप हैं, जहाँ इक्का दुक्का लोग घूमने के लिए पहुँच जाते हैं लेकिन वहाँ पयर्टकों की भीड़ नहीं. ब्राज़ील, इटली, थाईलैंड जैसे देशों में इस तरह की जगहें पर्यटक रिसोर्ट बन कर "विकसित" हैं लेकिन मुझे इस जगह का यही पर्यटक विहीन स्वच्छ रूप बेहतर लगा!

Guwahati, Assam, India: Vi sono diverse isole nel fiume Brahmaputra con della sabbia bianca luccicante e molto fine, dove arrivano pochi turisti e mancano le folle. In molti paesi, spesso luoghi simili sono "sviluppati" per i turisti, ma personalmente preferisco questa versione incontaminata e non turistica.

Sleeping boats - Barche addormentate - सोयी नावें

Varanasi, India: Probably the persons sleeping in open boats are as poor as the persons forced to sleep on the footpaths of big cities, but may be in the boat floating on the waves there is a sensation of a mother rocking her child?

वाराणसी, भारतः खुली नाव में सोने वाले शायद महानगरों में फुटपाथ पर सोने वाले जैसे ही गरीब होते हैं, लेकिन शायद लहरों के साथ हिचकोले खाती नाव में माँ की ममता की थपकी होती है?

Varanasi, India: Forse le persone che dormono nelle barche aperte sono povere come quelle costrette a dormire sui marciapiedi delle metropoli, ma che nelle barche sulle onde, vi è la sensazione di una mamma che dondola il bimbo?

Old bridges - Ponti vecchi - पुराने पुल

London, UK: When new cities come up to replace the old ones, I love it when old but beautiful heritage buildings are saved and are integrated into the new. London docks is one such example. There, in between the gleaming skyscrappers, you can see old buildings and bridges, thus the thread between the old and the new histories is not broken.

लँडन, ब्रिटेनः जब पुराने शहर की जगह पर नये शहर बनते हैं तो पुराने सुन्दर भवनों आदि को नष्ट न होने देना और उन्हें नये में समन्वय करना मुझे बहुत अच्छा लगता है. लँडन की बँदरगाह पर ऐसा ही हुआ है. वहाँ नये चमकते गगनचुम्बी भवनों के बीच आप को पुराने भवन व पुल भी दिख जाते हैं, और पुराने तथा नये इतिहास का तार नहीं टूटता.

Londra, Inghilterra: Quando si costruiscono nuove città per sostituire quelle vecchie, mi piace quando i vecchi edifici storici e belli sono preservati e integrati nel nuovo contesto. Il porto di Londra ne è un esempio. Là tra i nuovi grattacieli luccicanti, potete vedere vecchie case e ponti, così il filo che collega la vecchia alla nuova storia non si rompe.
