Three continents, three countries and three big squares - Tien-a-men square from Beijing in China, Praca do Tre Poderes from Brazilia in Brazil and Praca do Comercio from Lisbon in Portugal.

Manchester bridges - Ponti di Manchester - मेनचेस्टर के पुल

Manchester, UK: Some old and new bridges on the Irwell river, to the south of the city. The one in the third image is the Trinity Bridge designed by the well known architect Calatrava.

Monsoon roads - Strade monsoniche - मानसूनी सड़कें

Dimapur, Nagaland, India: I had never seen such bad roads in India as in Dimapur. People told me that the situation is same all over Nagaland, though the roads were not so bad in the state capital Kohima. In Dimapur, often the vehicles search for paths without pot-holes so they go zig-zag, sometimes going up on the footpaths. During the rains when the pot-holes are full of water, the roads are even more dangerous.

दीमापुर, नागालैंड, भारतः दीमापुर जैसी खराब सड़कें मैंने भारत में पहले नहीं देखी थीं. लोग कहते हैं कि पूरे नागालैंड में यही हाल है हालाँकि राजधानी कोहिमा में सड़कें इतनी बुरी नहीं थीं. दीमापुर में अक्सर वाहन सड़क पर इधर उधर बिना खड्डों वाले हिस्से खोजते हैं, कभी कभी फुटपाथ पर भी आ जाते हैं. बरसात में खड्डों में पानी भर जाता है तो खतरा और भी बढ़ जाता है!

Dimapur, Nagaland, India: Non avevo mai riscontrato strade così malmesse in India come a Dimapur. Le persone mi hanno detto che tutto il Nagaland è così, anche se le strade della capitale statale Kohima non erano ridotte così male. A Dimapur, spesso i veicoli vanno qua e là in cerca di passaggi senza buchi e talvolta arrivano anche sui marciapiedi. Durante le piogge quando i buchi sono pieni d'acqua, la situazione diventa ancora più pericolosa.

Railway market - Mercato ferroviario - रेलवे बाज़ार

Nagaland, India: Trains from Guwahati pass from Dimapur on their way to Jorhat and Dibrugarh. The last station on this line is Tinsukhia. The road connecting the state capital Kohima to Dimapur passes above the railway lines near the station. There are not many trains passing this way. So underneath the bridge, on the railway lines, daily there is a bustling market of vegetables, where they also sell frogs, snails and caterpillars. When a train arrives, it blows horn and the shopkeepers stand up with their wares. After the train passes, the shopkeepers reopen their shops.

नागालैंड, भारतः दीमापुर से हो कर गुवाहाटी की रेलगाड़ियाँ जोरहाट और डिब्रूगढ़ की ओर जाती है. इस लाइन का अंतिम स्टेश्न है तिनसुखिया. नागालैंड की राजधानी कोहिमा को दीमापुर से जोड़ने वाली सड़क रेलवे स्टेश्न के पास उपर पुल से गुजरती है. थोड़ी सी गाड़ियाँ चलती हैं इस लाइन पर. इसलिए पुल के नीचे रेलवे की पटरियों पर हर रोज़ सब्जी भाजी का बाज़ार लगता है, जहाँ मेंढ़क, घेंघुए, कानखजूरे आदि भी बिकते हैं. जब कोई रेलगाड़ी आती है तो होर्न बजाती है, और रेलवे लाइन पर बैठे दुकानदार आपना सामान ले कर खड़े हो जाते हैं, जब रेलगाड़ी चली जाती है तो वापस अपनी जगह पर बैठ जाते हैं.

Nagaland, India: I treni da Guwahati passano da Dimapur per andare a Jorhat e Dibrugarh. Ultima stazione su questa linea è Tinsukhia. La strada che collega la capitale statale Kohima a Dimapur passa sopra le linee ferroviarie vicino alla stazione. Non passano molti treni su questa linea. Per cui sotto il ponte sui binari, ogni giorno si tiene un brulicante mercato delle verdure dove si vendono anche rane, lumache e brucchi. Quando deve passare un treno, il capotreno suona il suo clacsson e i negozianti si alzano con le loro merci. Poi quando il treno è passato, i negozianti tornano ai loro posti.

Dimapur ponds - Stagni di Dimapur - दीमापुर के तालाब

Nagaland, India: Dimapur is the largest city of Nagaland, and also its commercial hub. In the main city, between the shops, narrow streets, roads full of pot-holes and traffic noise, along with the Naga people, there are many immigrants from Assam, Bihar, Bengal, etc. who are more than 50% of the population. To see the city as it was 20 years ago, you need to go out of the main town. Today's images have ponds from United North Block part of Burma camp, where many poor immigrants live.

नागालैंड, भारतः दीमापुर नागालैंड का सबसे बड़ा शहर है, और वहाँ का व्यवसायिक केन्द्र भी. मुख्य शहर में दुकानों, तंग गलियों, खड्डों से भरी सड़कों और यातायात की चिल्ल पौंपौं के बीच में नागा लोगों के साथ असमी, बिहारी, बँगाली आदि प्रवासी भी हैं जिनकी संख्या वहाँ 50 प्रतिशत से कुछ अधिक ही हैं. पुराना दीमापुर कैसा था यह देखने के लिए आप को शहर से थोड़ा बाहर निकलना पड़ेगा. आज की तस्वीरों में बर्मा कैम्प के युनाइटिड नोर्थ ब्लाक से तालाबों को कुछ तस्वीरें. यहाँ बहुत से गरीब प्रवासी रहते हैं.

Nagaland, India: Dimapur è la città più grande di Nagaland, e anche il suo centro commerciale. Nella città principale, in mezzo ai negozi, alle strette viuzze, alle strade piene di buchi e al rumore del traffico, insieme alle persone Naga, vi sono molti immigrati da Assam, Bihar, Bengala, ecc., i quali sono più del 50% della sua popolazione. Per vedere la città come era 20 anni fa, dovete andare alla periferia. Le immagini di oggi sono degli stagni nella zona di United North Block di Burma camp. Qui tra gli abitanti, molti sono gli immigrati poveri.

Bamboo sellers - Venditori di bambù - बाँस बेचनेवाले

Guwahati, Assam, India: I had seen the huts on the river Brahmaputra while passing from there in a bus and had thought that those were the houses of fishermen. When I went there I found that it was the place of bamboo sellers. Bamboos are brought there from the north through the river. Huts of the poor, traditional Assamese houses or concrete apartments, here bamboo is used in all kinds of construction.

गुवाहाटी, असम, भारतः वहाँ से गुज़रते समय बस से ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी के किनारे बनी झोपड़ियों को देख कर सोचा था कि अवश्य मछुआरों के घर होंगे. पास जा कर देखा तो मालूम चला कि वह बाँस बेचने वालों की बस्ती है. बाँस उत्तरी असम से नदी से लाये जाते हैं. गरीबों की झोपड़ियाँ हों, पाराम्परिक घर हों या आधुनिक काँक्रीट के एपार्टमैंट, यहाँ बाँस हर जगह काम आते हैं.

Guwahati, Assam, India: Avevo visto le capanne lungo il fiume Brahmaputra mentre passavo da quelle parti in autobus e avevo pensato che erano le case dei pescatori. Invece è la zona dei venditori di bambù. I bambù arrivano dal nord tramite il fiume. Che siano le capanne dei poveri, le case assamesi tradizionali o i moderni appartamenti di cimento, il bambù si usa per tutte le costruzioni da queste parti.

Bologna, Italy: There was a time when taking pictures was the job of specific persons. Today photography has been democratized, and everyone takes pictures. Today's images have some photographers from yesterday evening's "Partot Wolf" parade.

बोलोनिया, इटलीः एक ज़माना था जब तस्वीरें खींचने के लिए विषेश व्यक्ति होते थे जिनका यही काम था. आजकल, तस्वीरें खोचने का जनतंत्रीकरण हो गया है, हर कोई फोटोग्राफर है. आज की तस्वीरों में कल शाम की "परतोत भेड़िया परेड" से कुछ फोटोग्राफर.

Bologna, Italia: Una volta vi erano persone specifiche, le quale avevano il compito di scattare le foto. Oggi la fotografia è stata democratizzata e tutti scattano delle foto. Le immagini di oggi hanno alcuni fotografi dalla parata "Partot Lupi" di ieri pomeriggio.

Garbage birds - Uccelli delle mondizie - कूड़ा पक्षी

Guwahati, Assam, India: Greater Adjutant storks are nature's "cleaning birds", who feed on dead animals and garbage. Once they were common all over Asia, now they are left only in a few parts of Assam and a small number is in Cambodia. In Boragaon in the south-west of Guwahati, where the city's garbage is collected, they can be seen in large numbers as in the 3rd image where they can be seen along with cows.

गुवाहाटी, भारतः हाड़गिला प्रकृति के "स्वच्छता कर्मचारी" पक्षी हैं, क्योंकि यह मृत पशु पक्षियों तथा कूड़े को साफ़ करते हैं. कभी यह पक्षी सारे एशिया में अधिक संख्या में पाये जाते थे, आज यह केवल असम के कुछ भागों में बचे हैं या फ़िर कुछ थोड़े से पक्षी कम्बोडिया में हैं. गुवाहाटी के दक्षिण पश्चिमी भाग में बोरागाँव में, जहाँ शहर का कूड़ा एकत्रित होता है, बहुत से हाड़गिला दिखते हैं जैसा की तीसरी तस्वीर में देख सकते हैं जिसमें इन पक्षियों के साथ गायें भी दिखती हैं.

Guwahati, Assam, India: Marabù maggiore asiatico sono gli "uccelli della pulizia" della natura perché si alimentano di carcasse e di rifiuti. Una volta erano presenti in tutta l'Asia, mentre ora sono rimasti soltanto in alcune parti dell'Assam e un piccolo numero si trova in Cambogia. Nel quartiere di Boragaon, nella parte sud-occidentale di Guwahati, dove si raccolgono i rifiuti della città, molte di queste cicogne sono presenti come si vede nella terza immagine, dove sono insieme alle mucche.

Ugly beauty - Brutta bellezza - भद्दी सुन्दरता

Guwahati, Assam, India: In the centre of the city, that lake was hidden behind houses. It looked beautiful in the evening light. There was even a path along it for leisurely walking. However, at places there were mounds of garbage, and some of them were burning. When I asked a man about the name of that lake, he laughed and said that it was not a lake but just dirty water and that the government is planning to build a beautiful park in that place.

गुवाहाटी, असमः शहर के बीचों बीच की वह झील घरों के पीछे छुपी थी. संध्या की रोशनी में सुन्दर लग रही थी. झील के साथ साथ सैर करने के लिए रास्ता भी बना था. पर कई जगह कूड़े के ढेर लगे थे, कहीं कूड़ा जल रहा था. एक व्यक्ति से उस झील का नाम पूछा तो वह हँसा, बोला झील नहीं है, गन्दा नाला है, पर सुना है कि सरकार यहाँ सुन्दर पार्क बनायेगी.

Guwahati, Assam, India: Nel centro della città, quel lago era nascosto dietro le case. Nella luce della sera sembrava bello. Vi era anche un percorso lungo le acque per le passeggiate. Ma in alcuni posti vi erano ammassati i rifiuti e alcuni mucchietti bruciavano. Quando ho chiesto ad un uomo il nome di quel lago, si è messo a ridere e ha risposto che quello non era un lago, era acqua sporca ma che il governo intende costruire un bel parco in quel posto.

Duck morning - Mattina papera - बतखमयी सुबह

Guwahati, Assam, India: All the ducks came out together for their morning walk, walking fearlessly in the middle of the road. Those with cars, scooters and bicycles, slowed down and tried to pass from the sides, without disturbing them.

गुवाहाटी, असम, भारतः सुबह की सैर के लिए एक साथ निकलीं सारी बतखें, निडर हो कर सड़क पर पसरी हुईं. कार वाले, स्कूटर वाले, साइकल वाले, वाहन धीरे करते, साथ से निकलने की कोशिश करते, बिना उनकी सैर में कोई बाधा पहुँचाये!

Guwahati, Assam, India: Tutte le papere sono uscite insieme per la loro passeggiata mattutina, caminvano in mezzo alla strada, senza paura. Quelli con le macchine, le auto-risciò e le bici, si rallentavano e cercavano di passare ai lati senza disturbarle.

Old bridges - Ponti vecchi - पुराने पुल

London, UK: When new cities come up to replace the old ones, I love it when old but beautiful heritage buildings are saved and are integrated into the new. London docks is one such example. There, in between the gleaming skyscrappers, you can see old buildings and bridges, thus the thread between the old and the new histories is not broken.

लँडन, ब्रिटेनः जब पुराने शहर की जगह पर नये शहर बनते हैं तो पुराने सुन्दर भवनों आदि को नष्ट न होने देना और उन्हें नये में समन्वय करना मुझे बहुत अच्छा लगता है. लँडन की बँदरगाह पर ऐसा ही हुआ है. वहाँ नये चमकते गगनचुम्बी भवनों के बीच आप को पुराने भवन व पुल भी दिख जाते हैं, और पुराने तथा नये इतिहास का तार नहीं टूटता.

Londra, Inghilterra: Quando si costruiscono nuove città per sostituire quelle vecchie, mi piace quando i vecchi edifici storici e belli sono preservati e integrati nel nuovo contesto. Il porto di Londra ne è un esempio. Là tra i nuovi grattacieli luccicanti, potete vedere vecchie case e ponti, così il filo che collega la vecchia alla nuova storia non si rompe.

Soup-bowl building - Edificio zuppiera - कटोरा भवन

Brazilia, Brazil: I love the architecture of this city. Full of swaggering self-confidence, it seems to say, "I don't care about your criteria of beauty, I will make my own criteria." Gulliver's travel include a journey to the land of giants, this architecture seems to be made for that land. Today's images have the national parliament building from Brazilia, designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer.

ब्राज़िलिया, ब्राज़ीलः इस शहर का सारा वास्तुशिल्प मुझे बहुत अच्छा लगता है, मानो मस्त आत्मविश्वास से सिर ऊँचा करके कह रहा हो कि मुझे किसी अन्य के सुन्दरता को मापने के मापदँडों की परवाह नहीं, मैं अपनी इच्छा से अपने लिए नये मापदँड बनाऊँगा. गुलिवर की यात्राओं में एक यात्रा भीमकाय लोगों के देश में भी है, यहाँ का वास्तुशिल्प उन भीमकाय लोगों के लिए बना लगता है. आज की तस्वीरों में ब्राज़िलिया का राष्ट्रीय संसद भवन, इसके वास्तुशिल्पकार थे ऑस्कर नीमेयर.

Brasilia, Brasile: Amo l'architettura di questa città. Piena di auto fiducia rampante, sembra dire, "Non mi frega dei vostri criteri di bellezza, deciderò io i miei criteri." I viaggi di Gulliver parlano della terra dei giganti, questa architettura sembra adatta per quella terra. Le immagini di oggi sono del parlamento nazionale a Brazilia, opera del architetto Oscar Niemeyer.

Light goddess - Dea della luce - ज्योति देवी

Bangalore, India: Last night, during my walk I reached a "Kannadiga Rajostsava", which celebrates the birth of Karnataka state on 1 November. Through out the month, cultural programmes are organised to celebrate it. Today's images have the goddess figures made with light from this festival.

बँगलूरु, भारतः कल रात को घूमते हुए "कन्नाडिगा राजोत्व" पहुँच गया. कर्णाटक राज्य के जन्म का यह त्योहार 1 नवम्बर को मनाया जाता है  और माह भर तक विभिन्न जगहों पर लोग इसकी खुशी में साँस्कृतिक क्रायक्रम आयोजित करते हैं. आज की तस्वीरों में समारोह की रोशनी से बनी देवी आकृतियाँ.

Bangalore, India: Ieri sera mentre passeggiavo, sono arrivato alla "festa dei Kannada", celebrata il 1 novembre, per ricordare la nascita dello stato di Karnataka. Durante tutto il mese, si organizzano serate culturali per queste celebrazioni. Nelle immagini di oggi alcune figure delle dee create con le luci da questa festa.

Night river - Fiume notturno - रात की नदी

Dublin, Ireland: Built in 1816, the iron bridge on the river Liffey is called "Penny ha'Penny", from the toll for crossing it. Today's images are from that area.

डबलिन, आयरलैंडः लिफ्फी नदी पर सन 1816 में बने लोहे के पुल को "पेन्नी हा' पेन्नी" (डेढ़ पैसा) पुल कहते हैं, जो कि इसे पार करने का किराया था. आज की तस्वीरें इसी पुल के आसपास से हैं.

Dublino, Irlanda: Costruito nel 1816, il ponte di ferro sul fiume Liffey si chiama Ponte "Penny Ha'Penny" (Un centesimo e mezzo), che era il pedaggio per attraversarlo. Le foto di oggi sono della zona.

Narrow streets - Viuzze strette - तंग गलियाँ

Jersalem, Israel: The stairs in the narrow streets that go up and down the hills of the old city, have little slopes for the passage of bicycles and motor-cycles.

जेरूसलम, ईज़राइलः पुराने शहर की पहाड़ियों पर चढ़ती उतरती तंग गलियों की सीढ़ियों पर साइकलों और मोटरसाइकलों के उतरने के लिए छोटी छोटी ढलानें भी बनी हैं.

Gerusalemme, Israele: Gli scalini delle strette viuzze che salgono e scendono sulle collinette della vecchia città hanno le piccole discese per facilitare il passaggio delle bici e delle moto.
