Scarlet Ibis - Ibis scarlatto ‍-

Belem, Brazil: In 1960, American writer James Hurst had written a story titled on this bird, about the feelings of guilt associated with childhood thoughtlessness that can accompany us for all our lives. The elder brother of the story tells how his thoughtlessness had led to the death of his sick brother Doodle. Associating scarlet ibis with blood and death seems natural, but in ancient Egypt, these birds were associated with stories of moon and magic.

Delhi, India: Every time I see the blue-yellow macaws, I remember a girl I had met almost 20 years ago in Guyana in south America. Her parrot was bigger. While she was riding a bicycle it sat on the handle, enjoying the wind. Today's images of parrots are from the Delhi zoo.

Brazilia, Brazil: I love the architecture of this city. Full of swaggering self-confidence, it seems to say, "I don't care about your criteria of beauty, I will make my own criteria." Gulliver's travel include a journey to the land of giants, this architecture seems to be made for that land. Today's images have the national parliament building from Brazilia, designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer.

San Paulo, Brazil: Most of the sculptures I have seen in Brazl are in modern style, but this sculpture in Ibirapuera park was in old Greek-Roman style. It didn't have a title or the name of its sculptor. However I thought that the group of statues showing a man and two boys in the grip of a python represented millions of people around the world struggling to get out of poverty and adverse circumstances.

Boscolo statue, Anhangabau park, Sao Paolo, Brazil - Images by Sunil Deepak, 2014

Brazil, San Paulo: I was mesmerized by that statue in the Anhangabau park. My first thought was that some protesting students have spoiled it by throwing colour on it. On a closer look I felt that the colour had not been thrown carelessly, rather some artist had worked properly to apply it in a certain way, that made it a symbol of the protest. Probably the followers of the person represented in the statue and the civic authorities see it as an example of uncivilized behaviour, but in terms of artistic expression, I loved it.
