Raised hands - Mani alzate -

Emotions of raised hands, Rome, Italy - Images by Sunil Deepak
Emotions of raised hands, Dublin, Ireland - Images by Sunil Deepak
Emotions of raised hands, Sao Paolo, Brazil - Images by Sunil Deepak

In many languages, "raising the hand" means beating someone. However if you look at today's images from Rome/Italy, Dublin/Ireland and San Paulo/Brazil, the raised hands of the statues are expressing positive emotions - mystic trance, calling people to rise and expressing dtermination for the rights.

Sunset, Sea port, Gaza, Palestine - Images by Sunil Deepak

Beautiful sunsets often make me sad. They remind me of the beauty of the life and also of the end of a life-cycle. The setting sun makes me remember those loved ones who are far away or those who are no more. The images of evenings in today's post are from Assam/India, Para/Brazil and Gaza/Palestine.

3 Owls - 3 Gufi - 3

Baby owl, Goiania, Goias, Brazil - Images by Sunil Deepak
Snow owl, Verona zoo, Italy - Images by Sunil Deepak
Barn owl, Kaziranga, Assam, India - Images by Sunil Deepak

In the folk-tales of many countries, owls are considered as wise birds and when there is an argument between animals and birds, they go to an old owl for advice. On the other hand, in north-western India, "owl" means stupid and to call someone "son of an owl" is an abuse. Today for 1 April my greetings to all the owls of the world. Today's images are from Brazil, Italy and India.

Scarlet Ibis - Ibis scarlatto ‍-

Scarlet ibis, Belem, Para, Brazil - Images by Sunil Deepak
Scarlet ibis, Belem, Para, Brazil - Images by Sunil Deepak
Scarlet ibis, Belem, Para, Brazil - Images by Sunil Deepak

Belem, Brazil: In 1960, American writer James Hurst had written a story titled on this bird, about the feelings of guilt associated with childhood thoughtlessness that can accompany us for all our lives. The elder brother of the story tells how his thoughtlessness had led to the death of his sick brother Doodle. Associating scarlet ibis with blood and death seems natural, but in ancient Egypt, these birds were associated with stories of moon and magic.

In the sculpture "Pieta" by famous Italian artist Michelangelo, there is a sad Miriam with the body of her son Jesus in her arms. The original of this sculpture is in St. Peter's in Rome, where it is not easy to photograph as it is behind a glass. Today's images have 3 copies of "Pieta" - first is from Brazilian capital Brazilia, second is from Shillong in Meghalaya (India) and the third is from Verano cemetery in Rome (Italy).

Brazilia, Brazil: I love the architecture of this city. Full of swaggering self-confidence, it seems to say, "I don't care about your criteria of beauty, I will make my own criteria." Gulliver's travel include a journey to the land of giants, this architecture seems to be made for that land. Today's images have the national parliament building from Brazilia, designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer.

Snake sculpture, Ibirapuera park, San Paulo, Brazil - Images by Sunil Deepak, 2014

San Paulo, Brazil: Most of the sculptures I have seen in Brazl are in modern style, but this sculpture in Ibirapuera park was in old Greek-Roman style. It didn't have a title or the name of its sculptor. However I thought that the group of statues showing a man and two boys in the grip of a python represented millions of people around the world struggling to get out of poverty and adverse circumstances.
