Little Tommy - Piccolo Tommy - छोटा सा टोम्मी

Bologna, Italy: During holidays I had gone to my son's home. His baby tomcat Tommy is so entertaining. He would sit in my suitcase or play with my computer, and sometimes, when tired, sleep on my bed.

बोलोनिया, इटलीः छुट्टियों में बेटे के पास गया था. उसका छोटा सा बिल्ला टोम्मी खूब दिल बहलाता है. कभी मेरे सूटकेस में घुस जाता, कभी कम्पयूटर से खेलता और कभी थक कर मेरे बिस्तर भी सो जाता.

Bologna, Italia: Durante le ferie ero andato da mio figlio. Suo gattino Tommy è così divertente. Si sedeva dentro la mia vaiglia o giocava con il computer e qualche volta stanco, si addormentava sul mio letto.

Siliguri memories - Ricordi di Siliguri - सिलीगुड़ी की यादें

Siliguri, West Bengal, India: I was back there after fifty years and the city was completely changed. But some of my memories were still fresh. The big house where I was so afraid of the heads of tigers and antelopes on the walls. Stories about ghosts and witches that made my heart beat with anxiety. Walks along Teesta river. Bittu and Neena, our playmates from my uncle's family, who are no more. And, most of all, my young cousin Baby who had died under a truck while crossing the street.

सिलीगुड़ी, पश्चिम बँगाल, भारतः पचास साल के बाद वहाँ लौटा था, और शहर बिल्कुल बदल गया था. पर मेरी कुछ यादें अब भी ताज़ा थीं. वह बड़ा घर जिसमें लगे चीतों और बाराहसिंगों के सिर मुझे डरावने लगते थे. रात को सुनाने वाली भूतों चुड़ेलों की कहानियाँ जिनसे दिल धकधक करता था. तीस्ता नदी के किनारे घूमना. मौसा के परिवार से बचपन के खेल के साथी बिट्टू और नीना जो अब नहीं रहे. और सबसे अधिक, सड़क पार करते हुए ट्रक के नीचे आकर मरने वाली मेरी छोटी सी मौसेरी बहन बेबी.

Siliguri, Bengala ovest, India: Ero tornato là dopo 50 anni e la città era completamente cambiata. Ma alcune delle mie memorie erano ancora fresche. La grande casa dove avevo paura delle teste di tigri e antilopi appese sui muri. I racconti degli spiriti e delle streghe che facevano battere il mio cuore dal terrore. Le passeggiate lungo il fiume Teesta. Bittu e Neena, i nostri compagni dei giochi dalla famiglia di mio zio, che non vi sono più. E più di tutto, la mia giovane cugina Baby, morta sotto un camion mentre attraversava la strada.

Brother & sister - Fratello e sorella - भाई बहन

Bidar, Karnataka, India: The two children were waiting for the school bus. The boy was older by a couple of years, wearing a school uniform and holding a school bag. The girl had a nice frock and was bare feet. Looking at them I remembered a childhood picture that has me with my sister, ready for going to school.

बिदर, कर्णाटक, भारतः दोनो बच्चे स्कूल की बस का इन्तज़ार कर रहे थे. लड़का कुछ साल बड़ा था, स्कूल की पौशाक पहने, बस्ता उठाये. लड़की का सुन्दर फ्राक और नँगे पाँव. दोनो को देखा तो बचपन में स्कूल के बस्ते उठाये अपनी छोटी बहन के साथ खिंची एक तस्वीर याद गयी.

Bidar, Karnataka, India: I due bimbi aspettavano il bus della scuola. Il ragazzo aveva qualche anno in più, portava la divisa e aveva una cartella. La ragazza aveva un bel vestitino ed era scalza. Mi hanno ricordato una foto della mia infanzia, dove io e mia sorella eravamo vestiti per andare alla scuola.

Brussels, Belgium: When I saw the wood-fort and the underneath tunnels in the children's park, I remembered the caves in Delhi's Birla Mandir where as children we used to play hide and seek.

ब्रसल्ज़, बेलजियमः बच्चों के पार्क में लकड़ी का किला और उसके नीचे बनी सुरँगें देखीं तो दिल्ली के बिरला मन्दिर के बाग की गुफ़ाएँ याद आ गयीं जहाँ बचपन में छुप्पन छुपाई खेलते थे.

Bruxelles, Belgio: Quando ho visto il forte di legno e i tunnel nel parco giochi per i bambini, ho pensato alle grotte nel tempio di Birla a Delhi, dove quando ero bambino, giocavamo al nascondino.

Seaside evening - Sera al mare - सागर पर संध्या

Brussa, Bibione, Italy: Sometimes some places get linked to specific persons or events in our minds. Most of our holidays are spent in the seaside town of Bibione, to the north of Venice, and in my mind it is linked to our dog Brando. Two days ago Brando died. He was very old but still lived fully till his last day. In the images of today the seacoast from our holidays a few years ago and Brando enjoying himself roaming around.

ब्रुस्सा, बिबिओने, इटलीः कभी कभी कुछ जगहों की यादें हमारे दिलों में किसी व्यक्ति या बात से जुड़ जाती हैं. हमारी अधिकतर छुट्टियाँ वेनिस के उत्तर में सागरतट पर बसे बिबिओने में गुजरती रही हैं, जिसकी याद मेरे मन में हमारे कुत्ते ब्राँदो से जुड़ी हुई है. दो दिन पहले हमारा ब्राँदो नहीं रहा. बहुत बूढ़ा हो गया था, पर फ़िर भी अन्त तक पूरा जिया. आज की तस्वीरों में कुछ वर्ष पहले की छुट्टियों में सागर तट और वहाँ घूमता ब्राँदो.

Brussa, Bibione, Italia: Qualche volta alcuni luoghi si legano a specifiche persone o eventi nella nostra mente. Passiamo la maggior parte delle nostre vacanze a Bibione, al nord di Venezia, e nella mia mente Bibione è legato al nostro cane Brando. Due giorni fa abbiamo perso Brando. Era molto vecchio, ma ha vissuto bene fino all'ultimo giorno. Le immagini di oggi sono dalle nostre ferie al mare alcuni anni fa e Brando che vi girava felice.

Childhood memories - Ricordi d'infanzia - बचपन की यादें

Delhi, India: I was six at that time and my mother was teaching in a municple school. Together with children of her school, my mother took me as well, for the Delhi tourist visit. The children studying in the municiple school were poor and of my age. When we reached Qutub, we climbed up to the top floor (at that time, it was possible), but I had no interest in looking at the monument or knowing about its history, I had spent all the time in playing with other children.

दिल्ली, भारतः मैं छहः साल का था, माँ नगरपालिका के विद्यालय में पढ़ाती थी. उनके विद्यालय के बच्चों के साथ दिल्ली की सैर पर माँ मुझे भी ले गयी थी. नगरपालिका विद्यालय में पढ़ने वाले बच्चे गरीब घरों से थे और मेरे हमउम्र ही थे. जब कुतुब मीनार पहुँचे तो ऊपरी मँज़िल तक चढ़े, लेकिन तब जगह देखने या इतिहास जानने में कोई रुचि नहीं थी, बाकी बच्चों के साथ पकड़न पकड़ाई खेलने में ही लगा रहा.

Delhi, India: Avevo sei anni e mia madre insegnava alla scuola municipale. Insieme ai bambini della sua scuola, mia madre aveva preso anche me per la visita turistica di Delhi. I bimbi che studiavano alla scuola municipale provenivano da famiglie povere ed erano della mia età. Quando siamo arrivati al Qutub Minar, siamo saliti fino all'ultimo piano (allora si poteva farlo), ma in quell'epoca, non mi interessava visitare il monumento o conoscere la sua storia, avevo solo giocato con gli altri bambini per tutto il tempo.
