Bologna, Italy: It has been snowing off and on for the last twelve days. Whenever the sun comes out, children come out to play, especially to slide down the slopes. Children's play ground covered with snow seems sad, waiting for the snow to go away and for children's shouts to come back.

Bologna, Italia: Da dodici giorni continua a nevicare.

  2. It's been an unusual winter even in India. One of my relatives returned from her one month long trip to Canada and she never wishes to go there again. For full one month she remained closed in her chamber and now she's very happy to see plenty of Sun In India.

Do many people there fall victim to SAD and other cold related syndromes in exceptionally cold weather?

Thanx to my upbringing in a very humble manner, I am able to bear the ups and downs of weathers with much more patience and tolerance. In hot summers I don't get mad if power goes off for some hours, I am even able to sleep under a slow moving ceiling fan. In rains I don't get upset when I become wet as I never carry a raincoat or an umbrella. Same is with winters, they have not yet managed to keep me shut in my house for a day. In contrast, I see that my kids have become very delicate and pampered. They don't even walk barefoot on grass lest their feet should get dirty. I wonder if they ever get to enjoy heavy rains and extreme weathers.

Things have changed to a very disappointing state. Most persons have become too lazy to walk around and use stairs instead of elevators. Boys almost 20 years younger than me will wait five minutes for lift than to climb two stairs. They'll seek some help when their baggage becomes a bit heavy as they have stuffed 4 pairs of clothes and other things for a two days trip, instead I travel so light that I am able to carry the entire luggage of my family when we are on vacation. On my last trip, I even walked almost a mile with almost 40 kgs of stuff when we couldn't find any transportation.

Guess I have said... rather, boasted enough for your fantastic post:)

    1. The exceptional cold of these days is an exception so the depressive syndromes linked to cold weather and prolonged periods of reduced sunlight are not common here as in countries of Scandinavia.

I also feel that growing up in more humble and tough conditions is an advantage in many ways, compared to growing up in wasteful luxury and surrounded by endless choices!

Thanks for sharing your feelings so candidly! :)
