Mehrauli, Delhi, India: History remembers Ghiyasuddin Balban of the slave dynasty, emperor of thirteenth century Delhi for twenty years, as a honest but strict ruler. When I went to see the ruins of his tomb, a group of boys was playing cards and goats roamed around his tomb.

  1. So this is more a discarded tomb with history! I saw one more tomb in Delhi where lovers were abound. Kept wondering about its history:) Nice title!

    1. Actually the general condition of the tomb is not bad, it is clean with boards explaining about it. But it is also part of a sprawling ruins-complex surrounded by a forest-park, and perhaps difficult for ASI to man. If local community can be involved, perhaps that would help in making sure that it is not destroyed bit by bit!

    1. Thanks Puru. No he was not Razia Sultan's father, rather he was her head of hunting. I think that Razia Sultan's tomb is towards Suraj Kund,a little more outside Delhi, but I am not sure about it.

  5. I live at a distance of about 10 km from these tombs. When I visited them first (and the only time) I was scandalised by the neglect...

    1. Actually Tom, I think that ASI has done some restoration work there and put signboards, but being part of residential area (Mehrauli) it is not followed up.
