Squirrel myths - Miti sui scoiattoli -

Squirrel, central park, New York, USA - S. Deepak, 2012
Squirrel, Schonenbrunen, Vienna, Austria - S. Deepak, 2013
Squirrel, Qutab Minar, New Delhi, India - S. Deepak, 2006

According to a myth linked to Ramayana in India, the three stripes on the back of Indian squirrels are marks of Rama's fingers, a sign of appreciation for helping in building a bridge to reach Lanka island. Iroquois Amerindians thought that the marks on American squirrels are from the claws of a bear, because squirrels used to tease them. Northern Europe has the myth of a gossiping squirrel called Ratatosk, who carried stories between the dragon living in the roots and the eagle living in the top of the World Tree. I was wondering that in India, different animals are linked to different Hindu gods - does someone know if squirrel is linked to any god? By the way, today's images have squirrels from three continents.
