Bologna, Italy: They look like ordinary women and are called Bistrishki Babi, that means "Grandmothers of Bistrishki" and they live in Bistrishki a village about 10 km from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. When they start singing, they bring out a sound that makes your heart palpitate. Their songs are traditions going back centuries and have antique words whose meanings even they themselves do not know. These are not tender songs, they have cries and roars, wars between notes, different notes rising up and down in waves as if you are standing in the centre of meeting place of oceans. In between I had the sensation of listening to mantras from vedic chants of fire-worship from Indian temples.
Bologna, Italia: Sembrano donne ordinarie e si chiamano Bistrishki Babi, le nonne di Bistrishki. Sono venute da Bistrishki, un villaggio a circa 10 km da Sofia, la capitale della Bulgaria. Quando iniziano a cantare, emettono un suono che fa palpitare il cuore. Le loro canzoni sono tradizioni che vanno secoli in dietro e comprendono parole antiche, ne anche loro capiscono i significati di quelle parole. Non sono canzoni dolci, sono gridi e ruggiti, sembrano lotte tra le note, le note che si alzano e si abbassano come le onde del oceano e sembra di essere in un punto di incontro tra gli oceani. Ad un certo punto ho avuto la sensazione di ascoltare il canto delle preghiere vediche usate per la preghiera al dio fuoco nei templi indiani.
