Bologna, Italy: For the historians, the Bologna battle of 8 August 1948, when city people had defeated the Austrian army and pushed them out of the city, is insignificant. The victory had lasted for a short time and the Austrian troops called by the Pope to save his empire were soon back in the city and had remained there till 1859. But that battle was significant for the city people because on that day civilians had defeated an army. The "VIII August monument" made by Pasquale Rizzoli in 1903 shows a fallen Austrian soldier and a half naked Bologna youth holding a ragtag flag.
