Country of Volcanoes - Paese dei Vulcani - ज्वालामुखियों का देश

एक्वाडोर की राजधानी कीटो पिछिंछो ज्वालामुखी के कदमों में बसा है करीब तीन हज़ार मीटर की ऊँचाई पर. सारा देश ज्वालामुखियों से भरा है, जो अब शाँत हैं. कीटो को इसका नाम यहाँ रहने वाली जनजाती कीटुस से मिला. कीटो इन्का साम्राज्य का प्रमुख शहर था और कहते हैं कि इन्का राजधानी कुज़को जो यहाँ से दो हज़ार किलोमीटर दूर है, उससे सड़क से जुड़ा था. आज की सभी तस्वीरें कीटो शहर के पुराने भाग से हैं जो कि ऊँची पहाड़ी पर बना है और जहाँ सड़कों पर सैर के लिए चलना भी पहाड़ों की चढ़ाई से कम नहीं लगता.

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is situated at the foothills of a volcano called Pichincho. The whole country is full of dormant volcanoes. Quito got its name from the Quitus tribe, who lived here. It was an important city in the Inca empire and it is said that before the Spanish invasion, it was connected to Inca capital Cuzco, two thousand km away by a road. The pictures today are from old part of the city that is located on a hill and walking around on the roads is very similar to mountain climbing with steep roads going up and down.

Quito la capitale dell'Ecuador si trova ai piedi del vulcano Picincio. Tutto il paese è pieno di vulcani dormienti. Quito ha ricevuto il suo nome dalla tribù Quitus che viveva qui. Era un centro importante per l'impero Inca e si dice che prima dell'invasione spagnola, aveva una strada lunga 2 mila chilometri che la collegava al Cuzco, la capitale Inca. Le foto di oggi sono dalla parte vecchia di Quito che si trova su una collina e passeggiare in città somiglia a fare alpismo con le strade ripide che salgono e scendono.
