Vatican city: St Peter is considered as the first Pope of Christianity. He was crucified in Rome. At the site of his tomb, the imposing St Peter's church was built. He is shown with two keys, one for the first church and the second for the gates of the heaven, as he is supposed to guard the gates of heaven. The ring worn by the pope is called St Peter's ring. In these days journalists and TV from all over the world are gathered in Rome for the election of the new pope. I learned about the Pope and the Vatican from the books of Australian author Morris West, such as "Devil's Advocate". Today's images have statue of St Peter outside the St. Peter's church.
