बाहिया, ब्राज़ीलः कापोऐरा ब्राज़ील के अफ्रीकी मूल के युवकों का पाराम्परिक युद्ध नृत्य है जिसे कहते हैं कि अफ्रीका से आये अफ्रीकी गुलामों ने अपनी रक्षा के लिए बनाया. एकतारा, डफली और ड्रम के संगीत के साथ जब सफेद पैंट और नंगे धड़ वाले युवक इस कला को दिखाते हैं तो डर से मेरा दिल दहल जाता है, लगता है कि थोड़ी से गलती से किसी की जान जा सकती है या फ़िर उम्र के लिए विकलांग हो सकता है. इसी नृ्त्य से प्रेरित लगता है अमरीकी ब्रेकडाँस. सड़क पर गरीब लड़कों को यह नृत्य करते देखने का आनंद कुछ और ही है.

Bahia, Brazil: Capoeira is the martial arts dance of the blacks and mixed groups in Brazil. It is said that it was invented by african slaves to defend themselves. Usually accompanied by a one string instrument and drum, watching bare torsoed young men do it is both exhilerating and fearsome. I always feel afraid that someone might hurt himself seriously. The American breakdance seems inspired from Capoeira and it is completely different watching a stage performance from the dance done on the streets in Brazil.

La danza, normalmente accompagnato da uno strumento musicale con una corda sola e da tamburi, mi eccita e allo stesso momento, mi fa paura che qualcuno si farà del male sul serio. La "breakdance" americana sembra ispirata da Capoeira. Vedere questa danza su un palcoscenico è molto diverso da vederlo sulla strada in Brasile.
