Mongolia: It was 23 June, I was in Sukhbaatar square in the national capital Ulaan Baatar. Suddenly I saw the statue of S. Zorig behind some bushes. Zorig a pro-democracy leader was killed in 1998. This time there won't be election violence, I had thought. Elections were planned for 29 June and there was some election manifesto behind Zorig's statue. For the past three weeks, I had been travelling over different cities and villages in Mongolia and had the occasion to meet a number of candidates from both the principle parties, the democratics and the revolutionary parties. There had been no sign of tension or violence. Last night when I saw the news of election related violence in Mongolia, I was very shocked.
Mongolia: Era il 23 giugno, ero in Piazza Sukhbaatar, nel centro di Ulaan Baatar, the capitale, e ho visto la statua di S. Zorig nascosto dietro a delle piante. Zorig, uno dei leader per la democrazia fu ucciso nel 1998. Dietro la sua statua vi era un manifesto elettorale. Questa volta non vi sarà violenza elettorale, avevo pensato. Nelle ultime 3 settimane avevo girato in lungo e largo per il paese e avevo incontrato alcuni esponenti dei due partiti principali, i democratici e il partito rivoluzionario. Non avevo notato nessun segno di tensione. Ieri sera al telegiornale quando ho visto le immagini delle lotte e delle proteste in Mongolia, sono rimasto così scioccato!

ReplyDeleteअभी तो भारत में आने वाले चुनावो की गर्मी चढ़ रही है. मंगोलिया की कोई खबर यहाँ नहीं देखने को मिलती.
