Modern dance - आधुनिक नृत्य

Summer is coming to an end and along with it the summer festival of Bologna. Yesterday evening there were contemporary dances of some Japanese groups including Kakuya Ohashi, Kairi Wakikawa, Maki Morishita, etc.

The setting was wonderful, the square next to the Neptune's fountain. The dance space was intermixed with the spectators and often dancers came out of the audience.

The music was strange and yet nice, made of magnified noises of our every day city life - noise of the generator, door screeching, fizzle of the wires as the tram passes, someone pulling a chair on the pavement, wind blowing up the dry leaves, and so on.

The dances were strange too, all about the angst of the city life, about the masks we are forced to wear, about the loneliness, about lack of space, lack of privacy, and so on. Bodies being pulled out by mysterious forces into all kinds of angles, bodies arching in spasms of tetanus, writhing on the ground. Only for some moments the joy and rhythm of dance came out in brief flashes.

गरमियाँ समाप्त होने को हैं. सुबह सुबह हल्की सी सर्दी हो जाती है. गरमियों के साथ बोलोनिया का ग्रीष्म ऋतु साँस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम भी समाप्त होने को आ रहे हैं.

कल रात को ग्रीष्म समारोह में कल रात को थे जापान के कुछ आधुनिक नृत्य करने वाले गुट - काकूया ओहाशी गुट, कायरी वाकीकावा, माकी मोरीशीता, इत्यादि. नृत्यों के दौरान दर्शकों और नर्तकों में बिल्कुल दूरी नहीं थी, दोनो नैप्च्यून के फुव्वारे के सामने एक दूसरे में जैसे घुले मिले थे, न कोई मंच था न कुर्सियाँ. नृत्य का संगीत शहरों के जीवन को कुछ सुर बढ़ा कर बना था - मशीन की आवाज़, दरवाजा बंद होने की चूँचू, फर्श पर कुर्सी घसीटने का स्वर, तेज़ हवा से उड़ते पत्ते आदि. और नृत्य भी उसी आधुनिक शहरी जीवन के चक्र में फँसे मानव की पीड़ा को दर्शाते हुए. मुखौटों से ढ़के मुख, जीवनहीन कठपुतली की तरह इधर उधर खिंचता शरीर, नाखूनों से दीवार खरोंचते हाथ, खुले में नहाते, सोते, जीते लोग. बीच में बीच में कभी कुछ देर के लिए पीड़ा को भूल कर नृत्य में खुशी की लय और मस्ती आ जाती.
