Fear's mother - Mamma della paura - डर की माँ

Lausanne, Switzerland: Outside the central library there are two sphinxes. Their faces and chests are like a woman, eagle's wings and body of a lion. The Sphinx used to ask riddles to the persons and those who could not answer, she used to eat. I feel that the legend of Sphinx is similar to the story of Sursa in Ramayan who meets Hanuman when he is going to Lanka. Though she has the face of a woman, in Arabic language, the Sphinx is called Abu-Al-Haul, or the father of fear.

लोज़ान्न, स्विटज़रलैंडः केन्द्रीय पुस्तकालय के बाहर दो खम्बों पर मिस्री स्फिँक्स हैं, जिनके चेहरे और वक्ष नारी के हैं, पँख गरुण के तथा शरीर शेर का. गुजरने वाले यात्रियों से स्फिँक्स पहेली पूछती और जो सही उत्तर नहीं देता उसे खा जाती. मेरे विचार में स्फिँक्स की कहानी रामायण की सिरसा से मिलती है जो लँका जाते हुए हनुमान को रोक लेती है. हाँलाकि उसका चेहरा नारी का है, अरबी भाषा में स्फिँक्स को अबूअलहोल यानि डर का बाप कहते हैं.

Losanna, Svizzera: Fuori dalla biblioteca centrale vi sono due colonne con il sfinge. Le loro facce e petti sono di una donna, le ali sono di un falco e i corpi sono di un leone. La sfinge chiedeva indovinelli ai passanti e se non riuscivano a risponderle li mangiava. Mi sembra che la leggenda di Sfinge si assomigli a quelli di Sursa in Ramayana in India che Hanuman incontra nel suo viaggio verso Lanka. Anche la sua faccia è di una donna, in arabo la chiamano Abu al'haul o il papà della paura.

Roman ruins - Rovine romane - रोमन खँडहर

Vienna, Austria: In the Schonenbrun royal palace, the roman ruins were constructed in eighteenth century. In the foreground these include statues of Danube and Enn rivers in human forms.

वियेन्ना, आस्ट्रियाः शोनेनब्रुन राजभवन में रोमन खँडहरों को अठाहरवीं शताब्दी में बनाया गया. इनके आगे के भाग में डेन्युब तथा एन्न नदियों को मानव आकृति में दिखाया गया है.

Poet's inspiration - Ispirazione poetica - कवि की प्रेरणा

Trieste, Italy: A panorama of the old ruins and the surroundings seen from the roof of the Duino castle. This castle belonged to the Austrian royal family. Before the first world war, in 1911, the well known poet Rainer Maria Rilke had stayed here as a guest and written the poems known as "Duino elegies".

त्रिएस्ते, इटलीः दुइनो के किले की छत से वहाँ के पुराने किले और आसपास का विहँगम दृश्य. यह किला आस्ट्रिया के राजघराने का था. प्रथम विश्व युद्ध से पहले,  1911 में सुप्रसिद्ध कवि राइनर मरिया रिल्के यहाँ मेहमान बन कर रहे थे तथा यहीं उन्होंने "दुइनो एलेजीस" शीर्षक की कविताएँ लिखीं थीं.

Trieste, Italia: Un panorama delle vecchie rovine e i dintorni visti dal terrazzo del castello di Duino. Questo castello era dei reali austriaci. Prima della prima guerra mondiale, nel 1911, il famoso poeta Rainer Maria Rilke era stato un ospite qui e aveva scritto le sue poesie conosciute come "Elegie di Duino".

Trieste, Italy: Surrounded by a transparent blue sea, built at the top of a rocky cliff, the ruins of the old Duino castle look if they are part of the rocks.

त्रिएस्ते, इटलीः चारों ओर पारदर्शी नीला समुद्र तथा चट्टानों के शिखर पर बने दुइनो के पुराने किले के भग्नावषेश, ऐसा लगता है मानो चट्टानों का ही हिस्सा हों.

Trieste, Italia: Circondato da un mare azzurro trasparente, costruito sulla cima di una collinetta rocciosa, le rovine del vecchio castello di Duino sembrano cresciute dalle rocce.

Blue tower - Torre azzurra - नीली मीनार

Kohima, Nagaland, India: The bell tower of the cathedral of Kohima is white with sky-blue designs. When I had seen it together with the cathedral it had reminded me of the periscope of a submarine. However looked at separately it makes me think of the fairytale tower where Barbablue had imprisoned the princess with the long hairs. The princess had put her hair out of the tower window and the prince who had come to save her, had caught them and climbed up. What does this tower makes you think of?

कोहिमा, नागालैंड, भारतः कोहिमा के कैथेड्रल के घँटाघर की मीनार सफ़ेद रंग की है जिस पर आसमानी रंग की आकृतियाँ बनी हैं. कैथेड्रल के साथ देखा था तो मुझे लगा था कि वह किसी पनडुब्बी का पेरीस्कोप है. पर ऐसे देखो तो लगता है कि यह बच्चों की कहानी वाली मीनार है जहाँ पर बारबाब्लू ने लम्बे बालों वाली राजकुमारी को कैद किया था. राजकुमारी ने अपने बाल खिड़की से बाहर फ़ैलाये थे और उसे बचाने आया राजकुमार उन बालों को पकड़ पर ऊपर चढ़ गया. आप को यह मीनार किस बात की याद कराती है?

Kohima, Nagaland, India: La torre del campanile del cattedrale di Kohima è bianca con dei disegni in azzurro. Quando l'avevo visto insieme al cattedrale, avevo pensato al periscopio di un sottomarino. Invece visto così, mi fa pensare alla torre di Barbablu delle fiabe dove lui aveva imprigionato la principessa con i capelli lunghi. La principessa aveva messo i suoi capelli fuori dalla finstra e il principe venuto a salvarla, si era aggrappato a quelli per salire sulla torre. A voi che cosa fa in venire in mente questa torre?

Zombie student - Studente zombie - ज़ोम्बी शिष्य

Padua, Italy: Padua in north Italy had the first European university. In the city, a place called Prato della valle (Valley meadow) is the largest square in Italy. It has a garden and a circular canal in its centre. Both sides of the canal are lined with statues of the famous personalities of the 17th century. Among them my favourite is the statue of the sculptor and architect Antonio Canova who is shown sculpting a statue. About 35 years ago when I had seen it for the first time, I had thought that it was the statue of a surgeon who is doing surgery on the head of his teacher. Since then I call it the statue of the zombie surgeon.

पादोवा, इटलीः उत्तरी इटली के पादोवा शहर में यूरोप का सबसे पहला विश्वविद्यालय स्थापित किया गया. वहाँ का "प्रातो देल्ला वाल्ले" यानि "घाटी का घास का मैदान" इटली का सबसे बड़ा स्क्वायर है जिसके बीच में एक बाग तथा गोलाकार नहर हैं. नहर के दोनो किनारों पर सत्तरहरवीं शताब्दी के सुप्रसिद्ध लोगों की मूर्तियाँ बनी हैं. उन सब मूर्तियों में मेरी सबसे प्रिय मूर्ति है शिल्पकार तथा आर्किटेक्ट अन्तोनियो कानोवा की जिसमें उन्हें एक मूर्ति बनाते हुए दिखाया गया है. पैंतीस साल पहले, जब मैंने इसे पहली बार देखा था तो मुझे लगा था कि यह किसी शल्यचिकित्सक की मूर्ति है जो अपने गुरु के दिमाग का आपरेशन कर रहा है. तब से मैंने इसका नाम "ज़ोम्बी सर्जन" रख दिया था.

Padova, Italia: Padova in nord Italia ha avuto la prima università europea. Nella città, la piazza di Prato della Valle è la più grande in tutta Italia. Ha un giardino e un canale in forma circolare al suo mezzo. Sul entrambi i lati del canale vi sono le statue dei personaggi più importanti del 17° secolo. Tra tutte le statue la mia preferita è quella di Antonio Canova, famoso scultore e architetto, che si vede mentre scolpisce un busto. 35 anni fa quando l'avevo visto per la prima volta, avevo pensato che era la statua di un chirurgo che fa l'intervento sul cervello del suo insegnante. Da allora l'ho sempre chiamata "il chirurgo zombie".

Triangular roofs - Tetti triangolari - तिकोनी छतें

Alberobello, Italy: Long time ago I had seen the pictures of the houses of Alberobello, called Trulli, with conical roofs made of black stones, and I had dreamed of going there. In 2012, Antonio, a friend from Ostuni had made that dream come true. Today's pictures are from that journey.

अल्बेरोबेल्लो, इटलीः बहुत साल पहले अल्बेरोबेल्लो के काले पत्थरों से बने तिकोनी छतों वाले घर, जिन्हें त्रुल्ली कहते हैं, की तस्वीरें देखी थीं, तो वहाँ एक दिन वहाँ घूमने जाने का सपना देखा था. ओस्तूनी के मित्र अंतोनियो ने २०१२ में यह सपना पूरा किया. आज की तस्वीरें उसी यात्रा से.

Alberobello, Italia: Molto tempo fa avevo visto le foto delle case di Alberobello che si chiamano Trulli, con i tetti conici fatti con le pietre nere, e avevo sognato di andare a vederle. Nel 2012, Antonio, un amico di Ostuni, mi aveva aiutato a realizzare quel sogno. Le immagini di oggi sono da quel viaggio.

Soup-bowl building - Edificio zuppiera - कटोरा भवन

Brazilia, Brazil: I love the architecture of this city. Full of swaggering self-confidence, it seems to say, "I don't care about your criteria of beauty, I will make my own criteria." Gulliver's travel include a journey to the land of giants, this architecture seems to be made for that land. Today's images have the national parliament building from Brazilia, designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer.

ब्राज़िलिया, ब्राज़ीलः इस शहर का सारा वास्तुशिल्प मुझे बहुत अच्छा लगता है, मानो मस्त आत्मविश्वास से सिर ऊँचा करके कह रहा हो कि मुझे किसी अन्य के सुन्दरता को मापने के मापदँडों की परवाह नहीं, मैं अपनी इच्छा से अपने लिए नये मापदँड बनाऊँगा. गुलिवर की यात्राओं में एक यात्रा भीमकाय लोगों के देश में भी है, यहाँ का वास्तुशिल्प उन भीमकाय लोगों के लिए बना लगता है. आज की तस्वीरों में ब्राज़िलिया का राष्ट्रीय संसद भवन, इसके वास्तुशिल्पकार थे ऑस्कर नीमेयर.

Brasilia, Brasile: Amo l'architettura di questa città. Piena di auto fiducia rampante, sembra dire, "Non mi frega dei vostri criteri di bellezza, deciderò io i miei criteri." I viaggi di Gulliver parlano della terra dei giganti, questa architettura sembra adatta per quella terra. Le immagini di oggi sono del parlamento nazionale a Brazilia, opera del architetto Oscar Niemeyer.

Flag monument - Monumento alla bandiera - ध्वज स्मारक

San Paulo, Brazil: This "monument to the flags" celebrates the 400th anniversery of the city. It is the work of sculptor Victor Brecheret.

सन पाओलो, ब्राज़ीलः शहर की स्थापना की चार सौवीं वर्षगाँठ मनाने के लिए इस ध्वज स्मारक को बनवाया गया था. इसको बनाने वाले शिल्पकार थे विक्टर ब्रेशेरे.

Pilgrims - Pellegrini - तीर्थ यात्री

Bethlehem, Palestine: The place where Jesus was born is considered to one of the holiest places for Christian pilgrims. On one side there is the nativity church, on the other side there is a mosque and between them is a Peace centre. On the surrounding hills you can see the new Israeli settlements. The place gives a feeling of tension between religions. However, in the church, I saw people of different countries, some of whom did not seem to be Christians. Near the church entrance is a statue of a medieval crusader that reminds of the history of religious tensions.

बेथलेहम, फिलिस्तीनः जिस जगह येसू पैदा हुए थे वह जगह ईसाईयों के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण तीर्थ स्थानों में से है. वहाँ एक ओर जन्मस्थान गिरजाघर बना हैं, दूसरी ओर एक मस्जिद और दोनो के बीच में एक शान्ति केन्द्र. आसपास की पहाड़ियों पर नये ईसाइली सेटलमैंट दिखते हैं. वहाँ का वातावरण, धर्मों के बीच के तनाव की अनुभूति देता है. लेकिन गिरजाघर में विभिन्न देशों से आये लोग दिखे, जिनमें से कुछ दूसरे धर्मों के लगे. गिरजाघर के द्वार के पास मध्ययुगीन ईसाई योद्धा की मूर्ति भी है जो धर्मों के बीच के तनाव के इतिहास की याद दिलाती है.

Betlemme, Palestina: Il luogo dove era nato Gesù è considerato tra i posti più sacri per i cristiani. Da una parte c'è la chiesa della natività e dall'altra c'è una moschea e tra i due c'è un centro di pace. Sulle colline circostanti, potete scorgere le nuove colonie israeliane. La città mi ha dato la sensazione di una tensione tra le religioni. Ma nella chiesa vi erano persone di diversi paesi, alcuni dei quali non sembravano cristiani. Vicino all'entrata della chiesa, c'era la statua di un crociato per ricordare la storia delle tensioni religiose.

Three monuments - Tre monumenti - तीन स्मारक

Manila, Philippines: Near the old part of Intramuros, Rizal park is full of monuments. Today's images have 3 of them - the 3 monkeys monument, one with his ears closed, second with his eyes closed and third with his mouth closed, these are also known as Gandhi's monkeys; the monument to independence fighter Lapo Lapo; and, the Philippino-Korean monument for Philippino soldiers who had died in the 1950 war between north and south Koreas.

मनीला, फिल्लीपीनसः पुराने शहर इन्ट्रामूरोज़ के पास रीज़ल पार्क स्मारकों से भरा है. आज उनमें से 3 स्मारक - तीन बन्दर स्मारक, एक कान बन्द किये, एक आँखें बन्द किये और एक मुँह बन्द किये, जिन्हें गाँधी जी के बन्दर भी कहते हैं; स्वतंत्रता सैनानी लापो लापो का स्मारक; व, फिल्लीपीनो कोरियन स्मारक जो उत्तरी व दक्षिणी कोरिया के 1950 के युद्ध में मरने वाले फिल्लीपीनी सिपाहियों की याद करता है.

Manila, Filippine: Vicino la vecchia città di Intramuros, i giardini Rizal sono pieni di monumenti. Le immagini di oggi hanno tre di questi monumenti - le 3 scimmie, uno con le orecchie chiuse, secondo con gli occhi chiusi e il terzo con la bocca chiusa, sono conosciute anche come le scimmie di Gandhi; il monumento al guerriero per l'indipendenza Lapo Lapo; e, il monumento Filippino-Coreano per ricordare i soldati Filippini morti durante la guerra tra le due Coree nel 1950.
