Guwahati, Assam, India: Sometimes I wish that the Hindi-speaking north India had the kind of respect and pride that Assam has for its culture and art. Today's images have three cultural icons of Assam's folk and popular music: the multifaceted artist Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Jayanta Hazarika who in his short life could create so much popular music (he was younger brother of Dr Bhupen Hazarika) and the national award winner folk singer Mrs Protima Barua Pandey.

London, Britain: Handel was born in Germany in 1685, he received his musical education in Italy and spent all his life in Britain, where he wrote operas in Italian and English. He had created some music for the coronation of king George second in 1727, that is since used for all British coronations. In 1980 in a music concert held in a church in Italy, I heard one of his organ concerts for the first time and became his fan. In today's images, his statue made by the French sculptor Roubliliac from the V & A museum.

लंदन, ब्रिटेनः हैण्डल का जन्म 1685 में जर्मनी में हुआ,  संगीत की शिक्षा इटली में मिली और सारा जीवन ब्रिटेन में बीता जहाँ उन्होंने इतालवी तथा अंग्रेज़ी भाषा में ओपेरा संगीत-नाटक लिखे. सन् 1727 में उन्होंने जोर्ज द्वितीय के राजा बनने का संगीत बनाया जिसे तबसे हर अंगरेज़ शासक के राज्याभिषेख पर बजाया जाता है. सन 1980 में इटली में एक गिरजाघर में होने वाली एक पश्चिमी शास्त्रीय संगीत सभा में उनकी संगीतबद्ध की हुई  एक ओरगन कन्सर्ट सुनी तो मुझे उनके संगीत से प्रेम हो गया! आज की तस्वीरों में फ्राँसिसी शिल्पकार रूबीलिया द्वारा बनायी उनकी मूर्ति, वी एन्ड ए संग्रहालय से.

Londrà, Inghilterra: Handel era nato in Germania nel 1685, aveva studiato musica in Italia e vissuto per tutta la vita in Inghilterra, dove aveva scritto molte opere in italiano e inglese. Nel 1727, per la coronazione del re Giorgio secondo, aveva scritto della musica che da allora si suona per tutte le coronazioni reali inglesi. Nel 1980, in un concerto di musica classica in una chiesa in Italia, avevo sentito per la prima volta uno dei suoi concerti di musica per organo ed ero diventato il suo ammiratore. Nelle immagini di oggi, c'è la sua statua, opera dello scultore francese Roubiliac, esposta nel museo V & A.

Snake charmers - Incantatori di serpenti - सपेरे मदारी

Delhi, India: There was a time when they used to go around the streets with their snakes, dancing monkeys and bears. Today no one is interested in those shows. Some ex-snake charmers try to make a living with the help of their music.

दिल्ली, भारतः एक समय था जब यह सड़कों पर साँप, नाचने वाले बन्दर और भालू ले कर घूमते थे. अब उन खेलों को कोई नहीं देखता, और कुछ पुराने सपेरे और मदारी अपने संगीत की सहायता से जीवन बिताने की कोशिश करते हैं.

Delhi, India: Una volta loro andavano in giro con i loro serpenti, le scimmie danzanti e gli orsi. Oggi nessuno vuole assistere a quegli spettacoli. Alcuni ex-incantatori di serpenti cercano di sopravvivere con l'aiuto della musica.

New music - Nuova musica - नया संगीत

Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia: In the 20th century, Mongolia was part of the Soviet group and that influenced their culture. Traditional music was also presented in the form similar to western symphonic music, while singing presentation was influenced by opera music. This gave new forms to the traditional music.

उलान बातार, मँगोलियाः बीसवीं शताब्दी में मँगोलिया सोवियत सम्राज्य का हिस्सा था जिसका प्रभाव वहाँ की संस्कृति पर भी पड़ा. पारम्परिक संगीत को पश्चिमी सिम्फनी संगीत की तरह प्रस्तुत किया जाने लगा जिसमें गाने की शैली ऑपेरा गायन से प्रेणित लगती है, इससे पारम्पराओं को नया रूप मिला.

Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia: Nel ventesimo secolo Mongolia era parte della zona sovietica, il che aveva influenzato la sua cultura. Hanno iniziato a presentare la musica tradizionale in forma simile alla musica sinfonica occidentale e il canto sembra influenzato dalla musica operistica. Ciò ha dato nuove forme alla musica tradizionale.

Bologna, Italy: The French music group Houba Samba Rock was so completely lost in the drum beats, that apart from listening to them, just watching them was so wonderful.

बोलोनिया, इटलीः ढोल की ढम ढम में मस्त हो गये फ्राँस के संगीत गुट हूबा साम्बा को सुनने में तो आनन्द था ही, देखने में भी आनन्द था.

Bologna, Italia: Il gruppo musicale francese Houba Samba rock era così completamente persa nel ritmo di suoi tamburi che era piacevole non solo ascoltarli, ma era meraviglioso anche guardarli.

Cow bells - Campanelli delle mucche - गायों की घँटियाँ

Novegno (VI), Italy: Yesterday morning, after the rains, the mountains looked so clean and beautiful that we thought it was the right day to go out for a picnic. We went to Novegno mountain. The place where we stopped for the picnic, had lots of cows grazing around. The whole time that we stayed there, we kept on hearing the sweet music of the bells tied around the necks of those cows.

नोवेन्यो, इटलीः कल सुबह वर्षा के बाद पर्वत एकदम स्वच्छ व सुन्दर दिख रहे थे, तो हमने सोचा कि पिकनिक के लिए अच्छा दिन होगा. नोवेन्यो पर्वत की ओर निकले. जहाँ पिकनिक के लिए रुके, वहाँ आसपास बहुत से गायें चर रही थीं. जितनी देर वहाँ रहे, उन गायों के गलों में बँधी घँटियों की मधुर टनटन का संगीत सुनाई देता रहा.

Novegno (VI), Italia: Ieri mattina dopo la pioggia, le montagne erano così limpide e belle, che abbiamo deciso di uscire per fare un picnic. Siamo andati sul Novegno. Il posto dove ci siamo fermati aveva tante mucche che pascolavano. Per tutto il tempo che siamo rimasti in quel posto, abbiamo continuato a sentire il dolce tintinnio dei campanelli legati ai loro colli.

Old song - Vecchia canzone - पुराना गाना

Bologna, Italy: I had just come out of the library with the books when I heard them. Trumpet, trombone, saxophone, drum .. and Miriam Makeba's old song "Pata, pata". Whole day couldn't stop myself from humming it. They are called Banda Rei and are the subject of today's images.

बोलोनिया, इटलीः पुस्तकालय से किताबें ले कर निकला तो उनको सुना. ट्रम्पट, ट्रोमबोने, सेक्सोफोन, ड्रम .. और मिरियम मकेबा का पुराना गाना "पाटा पाटा". कमबख्त मुँह पर ऐसा चढ़ा कि कल सारा दिन उसी को गुनगुनाता रहा. आज की तस्वीरों में वही संगीतकार गुट, जिनका नाम है "बान्दा रेई".

Bologna, Italia: Ero appena uscito con i libri dalla biblioteca quando li ho sentiti. Tromba, trombone, sassofono, percussioni ..e la vecchia canzone di Miriam Makeba, "Pata, pata". Tutto il giorno ieri ho continuato a fischiarla. Loro si chiamano Banda Rei e sono i soggetti delle immagini di oggi.

Rome, Italy: The music park has four auditoriums including an open air one. Between the auditoriums, there are some old Roman ruins as well.

रोम, इटलीः रोम के संगीत पार्क में चार संगीत कक्ष (ओडिटोरयम) हैं जिनमें से एक खुला कक्ष भी है. संगीत कक्षों के बीच में प्राचीन रोमन खँडहर भी हैं.

Roma, Italia: Il parco della musica ha quattro auditorium principali, compreso uno all'aria aperta. In mezzo vi sono anche le antiche rovine romane.

Lovers - Amanti - प्रेमी

New York, USA: Near Wagner park in Esplanade, I saw the giant metal sculptures by the British sculptor Tony Cragg that has a giant guitar and a trumpet. The sculpture made me think of two lovers, pining for each other, so close and yet so far.


नयू योर्क, अमरीकाः एसप्लेनेड में वागनर पार्क के पास ब्रिटिश कलाकार तोनी करेग्ग की बनायी धातू की विशालकाय कलाकृतियाँ हैं जिनमें गिटार और भोंपू बने हैं. उन्हें देख कर लगा जैसे दो विरह में तड़पते बिछुड़े हुए प्रेमी हों जो पास हो कर भी बहुत दूर हैं.

Nuova York, Stati Uniti: Vicino al parco Wagner in Esplanade, ho visto le sculture giganti di metallo, creazioni dello scultore inglese Tony Cragg, con una chitarra e una tromba. La scultura mi ha fatto pensare a due amanti che si struggono per il loro amore, così vicini ma ancora troppo lontani.

Bologna, Italy: Yesterday in the city, I heard a new music group called "Rumba de Bodas". The group has five guys and a girl (not in the pictures). I liked their music, it had a Latin touch to it.

बोलोनिया, इटलीः कल शहर में एक नये संगीट गुट को सुनने का मौका मिला. उनका नाम है "रुम्बा दे बोडास" और गुट में हैं पाँच युवक और एक युवती (युवती तस्वीरों में नहीं है). अच्छा लगा उनका संगीत, जो कि लेटिन अमरीकी शैली का था.

Bologna, Italia: Ieri in centro ho ascoltato un nuovo gruppo musicale che si chiama "Rumba de Bodas". Il gruppo è composto da cinque ragazzi e una ragazza (non nelle foto). Mi è piaciuta la loro musica, che aveva un tocco latino.
