Guwahati, Assam, India: Outside the state library there are 3 statues of persons linked with art, theatre, film and writing - Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Phani Sarma. All the three were associated with the left-leaning Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA). When I saw the statues I thought that only in the north-east of India we can give so much importance to cultural persons, in rest of India such respect is accorded only to political leaders.

गुवाहाटी, भारतः राज्य पुस्तकालय के बाहर तीन मूर्तियाँ हैं जिनमें असम के कला, नाटक, फ़िल्म तथा लेखक जगत से जुड़े तीन प्रसिद्ध कलाकार हैं - रूपकँवर ज्योति प्रसाद अग्रवाला, कलागुरु बिश्नु प्रसाद राभा एवँ नाट्यसूर्य फणी शर्मा. तीनों व्यक्ति वामपँथी कला संस्था इप्टा यानि भारतीय जन नाटक मँच से जुड़े थे. यह मूर्तियाँ देख कर मुझे लगा कि सांस्कृतिक जीवन से जुड़े लोगों को महत्व देना शायद उत्तरपूर्वि भारत की ही खूबी है, बाकि भारत में इस तरह का सम्मान केवल राजनीतिक नेताओं को मिलता है.

Tutte le tre erano collegate con IPTA (Associazione del teatro popolare indiano), un gruppo culturale di sinistra. Quando ho visto queste statue ho pensato che solo nell'India del nord-est si danno tanta importanza ai personaggi culturali, nel resto dell'India simili onori sono riservati soltanto ai capi politici.
