रोम, इटलीः खेलों की प्रतियोगिताओं में नग्न युवकों का भाग लेना शायद ग्रीस की परम्परा थी और ग्रीस की सभ्यता का पूरी पश्चिमी सभ्यता पर गहरा असर है जिनका एक नमूना है ओलिम्पिक स्टेडियम के चारों ओर लगी मूर्तियाँ. शायद मूर्तियों की नग्नता से घबरा कर कुछ मूर्तियों पर लँगोट जैसे वस्त्र जोड़े गये पर यह काम सभी मूर्तियों पर पूरा नहीं किया गया. मुझे तो वह ढकी मूर्तियाँ ही अधिक नग्न लगती हैं.
इन मूर्तियों में कोई स्त्री मूर्ती नहीं है, शायद क्योंकि इस तरह की प्रतियोगिताओं में युवतियाँ भाग नहीं लेती थीं?

Rome, Italy: Nude men participating in atheletics competitions was probably a Greek tradition and Greek culture has strongly influenced all of Western culture. One example of this influence is in the statues surrounding Olympic stadium in Rome. Probably some persons were not very comfortable with the nudity of these statues and thus, some statues were covered with fig leaves but it did not reach all statues. I personally feel that the covered statues are more nude.
There is no women among these statues, perhaps because no young women could take part in these games?

Roma, Italia: Atleti nudi nelle gare sportive era forse una tradizione greca e la cultura greca ha fortemente influenzato tutta la cultura occidentale. Un esempio di questa influenza è in queste statue che circondano lo stadio Olimpico di Roma. Forse qualcuno si sentiva a disagio con la nudità di queste statue e alcune statue sono state coperte, ma il lavoro non è stato completato. Personalmente, le statue coperte mi sembrano più nude.
Tra queste statue non vi è nessuna donna, forse perche le giovani donne non potevano partecipare in queste gare?

रोम, इटलीः बहुत साल पहले चीन के सियान शहर में मृत बादशाह के साथ दफ़नायी हुई पकी मिट्टी की सिपाहियों और घोड़ों की फौज देखी थी उसकी याद अभी भी मन में थी. कल रोम काम से गया था, रास्ते में मेटरो से निकला और बस लेने जा रहा था जब नजर एक अजीब दृष्य पर पड़ी. सारा स्कावयर सिपाहियों से भरा लग रहा था. यह थी जर्मन कलाकार हा शुल्ट द्वारा कूड़े से बनायी गयी मानव आकृतियों की कला प्रदर्शनी जिसका उद्देश्य बढ़ते उपभोक्तावाद की ओर ध्यान खींचना भी है.

Rome, Italy: I could never forget the sight of thousands of terracotta soldiers and horses buried in Xian in China. Yesterday while in Rome for work, as I got out of the metro and was proceeding towards the bus stand, I saw this incredible sight. The whole square seemed full of colourful people. Creation of the German artist Ha Schult, this exhibition of people made out of trash serves to remind us of society based on consumption.

Roma, Italia: Non ho dimenticato l'incredibile visuale di migliaia di soldati e di cavalli di terracotta sepolti nella città di Xian in Cina. Ieri a Roma per lavoro, mentre sono sceso dalla metro e cercavo la fermata dell'autobus, ho visto qualcosa di simile nella Piazza del Popolo che sembrava piena di persone variopinte. Creazione dell'artista tedesco Ha Schult, questa insolita mostra di figure umane costruita con i rifiuti serve a ricordarci del crescente consumismo.

रपाले गाँव, नमपूला, मोज़ाम्बीकः कभी भी किसी देश गाँवों में जाओ तो अक्सर वहाँ घूमते समय वहाँ के लोगों की तस्वीरें लेने का मौका मिलता है. पर उन तस्वीरों में तस्वीर खींचने वाला रास्ते पर होता है और लोग अपने घरों में या घरों के सामने. यह तस्वीर मुझे इस लिए भी अलग लगती है क्योंकि इसमें मैं उनके परिवार के साथ घर में अंदर बैठा था, और यह माँ बेटा घर के बाहर थे.

Rapale, Nampula, Mozmabique: Usually when you visit villages in different countries, most pictures are taken as you go around and watch persons in their homes or outside. This picture was different as while taking it I was sitting with the family insdide their house and then mother with her baby were outside.

बोलोनिया, इटलीः मुझे बचपन में नृत्य करना बहुत अच्छा लगता था जिसमें नृत्य मुद्राँए हाथ पाँव इधर उधर मारने से बनती थीं और जिसे मैं चुड़ैला नृत्य कहता था. आजकल के आधुनिक नृत्यों को देख कर अक्सर उन पुराने दिनों की याद आती है जब मेरी नृत्य कला को समझने वाले पारखी नहीं मिले थे!

फेरारा, इटलीः बचपन में एक खेल खेलते थे, स्टेच्यू यानि जिसे कह दो वह तुरंत मूर्ति बन कर खड़ा हो जाये जब तक आप उसे अनुमति न दें तब तक वह हिल न पाये. कुछ वैसे ही लगते हैं यह मूर्ति की तरह निश्चल खड़े सजे सँवरे लोग, जिनका काम मूर्ति बन कर पैसा कमाना होता है.

Ferrara, Italy: When I was a child, there used to be a game called "Statue", when you said it, persons were supposed to remain still like a statue till you gave them the permission to move. These persons dressed in costumes and standing still seem as if they are playing that game, though they do it for money!

Hope - आशा - Speranza

नमपूला, मोज़ाम्बीकः केवल भारत में ही विधवाओं का हाल बुरा नहीं, अन्य बहुत से देशों में भी उनके साथ बुरा व्यवहार किया जाता है. इस विधवा कोओपोरेटिव की महिलाँए मीठी मठरी बनाती हैं और उसे बेच कर कुछ कमाती हैं. उनकी आँखों में मुझे आशा और भय दोनो दिखते हैं.

Nampula, Mozambique: It is not just in India that widows are maltreated, some other countries also treat them harshly. The members of this widows' cooperative make and sell sweets for augmenting the family income. To me their eyes show a mixture of hope and wariness.

Nampula, Mozambico: India non è l'unico paese dove le vedove sono trattate male, sono trattate in maniera inumana anche in alcuni altri paesi. Le associate di questa cooperativa delle vedove preparano e vendono dolci per migliorare il proprio reddito. Nei loro occhi, mi sembra di leggere speranza insieme alla paura della delusione.
